Anxiety & Suffering
Finding peace when the city feels heavy.
Living in a city like Atlanta, it’s easy to feel surrounded by people yet completely isolated. We scroll through feeds full of curated lives, but on Thursday night, the silence in our apartments can be deafening.
The Myth of “Having It Together”
We often think that community is something we earn by being interesting, successful, or “spiritual enough.” But true biblical community starts with weakness. It starts when we drop the mask.
When anxiety hits or suffering feels overwhelming, our instinct is to retreat. We think, I’ll rejoin the group once I have my life sorted out. But the Bible offers a different path. In Galatians 6:2, we are commanded to “bear one another’s burdens.” You cannot have your burdens borne if you are hiding them.
“Grace is not for the strong who can handle life on their own. Grace is for the weak who know they need a Savior.”
When we look at the early church in Acts, we don’t see a group of polished professionals. We see a messy family sharing meals, sharing struggles, and sharing Jesus.
Practical Steps for Today
So how do we move forward? It starts with one small step. You don’t have to commit to a lifetime of service. Just show up once.
- Admit the need. It’s okay to admit you’re struggling.
- Take a risk. Join a group chat. RSVP to an event.
- Be patient. Real healing and connection take time (more than one gathering).
We are building a table where everyone has a seat. Including you.
